Demographic Simulation of depopulation in the rural area using SOARS(Yamamoto 2004)

Japan rural area has been suffering from the problem of rapidly high aging and depopulation. We focus on this problem, especially on the population dynamics in the rural area, through the agent based modeling using SOARS, a new agent-based-modeling language. We assumed the virtual village in which many inhabitants (agents) live. Agent has several demographical attributes, Age, Sex, Family, Job, etc. Every year, each agent makes a decision about her life events, i.e. job finding , moving-in or out, marriage, parturition, death, etc. The agent's decisions making affects the others' and generates various statistics, the total population ,the population pyramid , the number of moving population, etc. We compare this simulation model to the real world situation for developing the policy making by using ABM. SOARS is used to construct this model.
